What's all this weird stuff in my food?   Lots of substances get added to our food. Sometimes they make the food better to eat. But often they're added for very different purposes, such as to make food look attractive, weigh more, or last longer.

If people add things to food that shouldn't be there, this is called adulteration - food cheats are fined or sent to prison. But some things are added to our food legally, even though they have no nutritional benefit and may even reduce the nutritional quality of the food. Click on the links below to find out more.
