This is a picture of the 'balance of good health' - it shows what a balanced diet looks like. The plate is divided up into different sections to show the proportion of different foods in a healthy diet. As a general guide: about one third of your diet should be fruit and vegetables and about one third should be starchy carbohydrate foods like bread, cereals and pasta. Milk, dairy foods, meat, fish and alternatives (such as beans or soya) are also important. Then there's a final section called 'fatty and sugary foods'. You don't actually need to eat fatty and sugary foods at all, but you can have the occasional fatty or sugary snack without unbalancing a healthy diet - just as long as you don't eat too much!
About three-quarters
of the adverts were for foods high in fat
or sugar. Only a few
adverts were for healthier foods such as lower-sugar breakfast cereals,
yogurts and lunchbox products. There were no adverts for fruit and vegetables.
